LOS ANGELESTom Butler was outstanding as the starter, Michael Netzel made plays in the field and in the batter's box, and Dean Abramson closed the show by pumping strikes in the zone as the Oxy baseball team beat Vassar 4-3 at Anderson Field on Monday.

It was the Tigers second game of the day. Oxy beat No. 8 Centenary (La.) 4-1 in Game 1 with starter Will Martel pitching a complete game.

Butler earned the win, showing off his velocity in five scoreless innings. He struck out six batters, and gave up just three hits and a pair of walks.

After the game got close and a little anxious in the ninth, Abramson came in with ice in his veins and sent Vassar packing with a quick 1-2-3 inning. He got a ground out to third base that was back handed nicely by Netzel, a line out to JP Flores at second and then a strikeout swinging to finish the deal.

Netzel made several solid plays with firm throws to first throughout the game. He also went 2 for 4 with a pair of doubles, an RBI and a run scored. Jake Fredrickson also had a big day at the plate, going 2 for 3 with a double, two runs and an RBI, Bryan Smith was 2 for 4 with a double and a run scored, and Joey Garza went 1 for 3 with a pair of RBIs.

Season Impact: The Tigers played outstanding baseball all day and improve to 9-6 on the season.

Next Game: The Tigers' fun nine-game spring break at home continues with Endicott at 2 p.m. on Thursday.
