FORT PIERCE, Fla. – Senior center fielder Tommy Trotter (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) had four hits, three RBIs and scored a run, and junior righty Pat Rohr (Audubon, Pa./Devon Prep) threw 5 1/3 solid innings of relief to lead The University of Scranton to a 12-6 win over Messiah on Monday morning.

Trotter tripled twice and singled twice to lead the offensive charge. He had a two-out, two-run triple in a four-run second inning and added an RBI triple in the sixth. He also singled and scored in the eighth.

Rohr entered the game in the third inning and got the final out to stop a Messiah rally that had cut the Royals' lead to 6-4. He gave up two runs, one earned, in the fourth as the Falcons (3-3) tied the game at 6, but then proceeded to hold Messiah scoreless over the next four innings to pick up his first win of the season. In all, Rohr allowed those two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out two.

The Royals (3-2) jumped out to a 4-1 lead after the top of the second, then extended the lead to 6-2 in the top of the third before Messiah rallied to tie the game. But Scranton scored single runs in the fifth and sixth to move back ahead, then put the game away with two runs each in the eighth and ninth innings.

Scranton also got a single, double, two RBIs and two runs from freshman second baseman Brandon Peters (Peckville, Pa./Valley View) and a single, double, two runs and an RBI from senior right fielder Chase Standen (Newtown Square, Pa./St. Joseph's Prep).

Junior designated hitter Ian McIntosh (Newtown, Pa./La Salle College H.S.) doubled, scored three times and drove in a run, senior shortstop Justin Howell (Millington, N.J./Watchung Hills) singled and scored twice, and freshman catcher Anthony Lambroia (East Northport, N.Y./Commack) drove in a pair of runs in the victory.

The baseball team will be back in action on Wednesday when they play twice in Fort Pierce. The Royals will face Kenyon at 10 a.m., then take on Earlham at 2 p.m.
