WALSH LEADS RAMAPO OVER BROCKPORT 10-8

Winter Haven, FL: The Ramapo College baseball team recorded 10-8 win tonight over The College at Brockport as they improved to 5-3 overall while the Golden Eagles dropped to 4-6 overall.

Brockport scored one run in the top of the first inning before Ramapo added single runs in the first and second innings for a 2-1 lead. Joe Maugeri led off the bottom of the first with a single down the right field line before he moved to second on a sac bunt from Austin Unglaub and later moved to third on an infield ground out. Connor Walsh then laced a double down the left field line plating Maugeri to tie the game 1-1. Ryan MacNaughton ripped a double to left field plating Liam Duffy to take a 2-1 lead, Duffy smacked a double of his own earlier in the inning.

The Roadrunners pushed across three runs in the bottom of the third pushing the score to 5-1. Bobby Shannon singled with one out and stole second before Walsh drove him home with a single up the middle. Following a pitching change from Brockport, Anthony Rocchietti launched a two-run home run over the left field fence, his first of the year, 5-1.

Brockport added one run in the fourth before Ramapo tacked on three more runs in the bottom half of the inning. With two out Shannon drove home MacNaughton with an RBI single before Kyle Buser scored on an infield error. Walsh then laced a double down the right field line to plate Shannon for an 8-2 lead. Brockport scored three runs of their own, 8-5, in the sixth highlighted by back-to-back doubles. The Roadrunners got one back in the sixth when Maugeri scored on a Walsh single up the middle 9-5; Maugeri walked to lead off the inning. Each team scored one run in the seven pushing the score to 10-6 before Brockport tacked on two more runs in the top of the eighth to come within two 10-8. Brockport would bring the game-winning run to the plate in the top of the ninth but Ramapo closer Kevin Foulds got an infield ground out to Unglaub at shortstop to end the threat and earn his third save of the season.

Jon Brignoni earned the win on the mound for the Roadrunners as he struck out five, walked three and surrendered 11 hits over 6.1 innings of work. Ryan Vasel worked one inning of work and struck out three while Greg Westhelle worked the final two outs of the eighth inning. Foulds earned his third save of the season with one strike out in the ninth.

Walsh led the team at the plate finishing 4-5 with four RBI and one run scored. Shannon was 2-5 with two runs scored and one RBI while MacNaughton finished 2-3 with one run scored and one RBI.

The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow night when they take on Spalding University (KY) at the Lake Myrtle Main Field at 4:30pm.
