HEITLER STRIKES OUT 12 IN 5-3 WIN OVER FRANKLIN & MARSHALL

Auburndale, FL: The Ramapo College baseball team got a solid pitching performance from junior starter Cory Heitler as the Roadrunners defeated Franklin & Marshall College 5-3 tonight at the RussMatt Invitational. The Roadrunners now stand at 6-4 overall while F&M now stands at 4-4-1 on the season.

Ramapo got on the board in the top of the first inning when Austin Unglaub scored on a F&M error before they added their second run in the second inning when Joe Maugeri laced a single through the left side of the infield allowing Ryan MacNaughton to score for a 2-0 lead.

F&M scored one run in the third inning when K Kawahara recorded a RBI single before Ramapo got the run back in the fourth inning for a 3-1 lead. Anthony Rocchietti walked and later came home on Nick Cuba's RBI single to left field. The Roadrunners added two runs in the fifth inning when Connor Walsh came home on Rocchietti's infield ground out and Vincenzo Sita scored on an infield error for the 5-1 lead.

It was Kawahara again pushing another run across for F&M in the fifth inning when he smacked a double down the right field line allowing Cavegn to score 5-2 before they added another run in the seventh inning to make it 5-3 in favor of the Roadrunners.

Heitler (2-0) worked the first eight innings, striking out 12 batters with only two walks while he scattered five hits in his second win of the season. Greg Westhelle worked the ninth inning, going up against three hitters and striking out two including the final out of the game to earn the save. Sita and Cuba were the lone Roadrunners with a multi-hit game while Maugeri, Unglaub and Duffy each collected one hit each.

Ramapo returns to action tomorrow afternoon when they play Salve Regina University (4-4 overall) in a double header beginning at 2:30pm.
