Cougars Can't Get Clutch Hit In Loss to St. Thomas

Waverly, Iowa – After picking up a sweep yesterday, the Concordia University Chicago Cougar Baseball team took to the field again today looking to build on their seven game winning streak. The Cougars took on the University St.Thomas Tommies in a game that had a postseason type atmosphere to it. CUC trailed late, but got multiple runners on base. Unfortunately CUC was unable to bring home the runs needed to comeback against the Tommies falling by a final score of 3-1.
 
Joe Silva led the offense on the day, going 3-5 while driving in the lone run. Kevin Garcia also had two hits. Cody Caballero got the start on the hill and took the loss. The senior went five innings allowing six hits and three earned runs. Adam SchmittNoah Dressler and Abelardo Paz Agudelo combined to work four clean innings of relief work.
 
The Tommies broke through with the opening run of the game with two doubles in the top of the third. CUC fought back with a run of their own in the bottom half. Mateo Calle led off the inning with a walk, a sac bunt and a second out brought Calle around to third. Silva brought him home by legging out an infield single.
 
St. Thomas broke the 1-1 tie in the fourth on a Sam Schneider single up the middle. The Tommies made it 3-1 in the fifth on a solo homerun to left center.
 
The Cougars were able to put the tying runs on base in the fifth and sixth innings, but were unable to get the big hit. In total, CUC left ten runners on base in the game.
 
The Cougars (9-3) will now ready for their final non-conference trip before conference play opens. CUC will travel to Wisconsin to take on UW-Lacrosse in doubleheader action next Saturday. First pitch is set for 12:00pm.
