AUBURNDALE, FL - The Benedictine University baseball team came from behind in a third consecutive contest to win a third in a row on the spring trip.
Benedictine 10, Babson 9
• Babson nabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first with a two-out solo homer off Benedictine starter Ryan Miller
• Benedictine was able to tie the game in the top of the third
• Kyle Mitter singled and moved to second on a balk before scoring when Michael Chaffin singled
• Babson responded with a run in the bottom of the inning to open a 2-1 edge
• Two runs scored in the top of the sixth to allow Benedictine to take the lead
• Chaffin doubled home Jack Feeley, who singled, and Jimmy McLaughlin added an RBI single
• The lead swelled behind a four-run seventh
• Jonathan Hodo was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and McLaughlin logged a two-run single
• Jack Surin plated the final run with an RBI single, making the score 7-2
• D.J. Dillon distanced the lead in the eighth with a solo homer, his second of the trip
• Babson picked up three runs in the eighth to pull within 8-5
• Benedictine collected two unearned insurance runs in the ninth, needed because Babson scored four in the ninth
• Babson stranded the tying run on base after Marty Maves, pitching in his third straight game, struck out the final two batters
• Maves has posted a save in every win this season
• Benedictine is 3-1 on the trip with all three wins coming by a single run
• Babson won 29 games last season and fell in the regional final and is receiving votes in the D3baseball.com Top 25
• Miller kept Babson at bay for most of the game, working four straight innings without allowing a hit
• The sophomore, making his first start of the season, threw 7.1 innings and allowed just three earned runs in a quality start while fanning five
• Maves struck out four in 1.2 innings
• Benedictine banged out 14 hits in the victory
• Chaffin finished with three hits and a pair of RBIs
• McLaughlin, Surin, Dillon and Mitter all posted two hits
• McLaughlin drove home three runs
