Hartford, Conn - Senior RHP Sam Kosterich (Stamford, Conn.) allowed no runs on four hits in eight innings to capture his first win of the season and lead the visiting Eastern Connecticut State University Warriors to a 6-0 win over the Trinity College Bantams in Trinity's baseball home opener this afternoon on Murren Family Field at DiBenedetto Stadium.  The Warriors improve to 5-4, and the Bantams fall to 2-5 with their third setback in a row. Both teams will host Brandeis in their next games.  Trinity plays the Judges on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in a game that was moved from Waltham, Mass. to Trinity due to an unplayable field at Brandeis, and the Warriors entertain them for two on Saturday.

Trinity sophomore C Alex Rodriguez (South Windsor, Conn.) went 2-for-3 at the plate and threw out a potential Warrior basestealer.  Johnny Stamatis (Ridgefield, Conn.), Cooper Mooney (South Windsor, Conn.) and Matt Toth (New Canaan, Conn.) each singled for the Bantams.  Trinity starter Alex Shafer (Baltimore, Md.) recorded his second loss of the season, as the sophomore allowed all six runs, five earned, on seven hits in five innings of work.  The Trinity bullpen used three pitchers in four innings, including sophomore Andrew DeRoche (North Reading, Mass.) who allowed just two hits and no runs in two innings.  Senior Anthony Egeln Jr. (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) and junior Brad Whitman (Salisbury, Mass.) each pitched a scoreless frame and combined to strike out three.

The Warrior offense scored early as junior Ryan Hood (Arlington, Mass.) doubled in the first at-bat of the game, and classmate Alex Parkos (Meriden, Conn.) scored him on a sacrifice fly to left field. Parkos recorded two more RBI's in the third inning on a two-out single to center field, and the Warriors tacked on two more runs in the fourth inning and one in the fifth.  Hood had two doubles and junior Alexander White (West Hartford, Conn.) singled twice for the Eastern Connecticut offense.
