Coltrane Tait recorded four extra base hits and was 5-for-5 at the plate as the New York University baseball team rolled to a 13-7 victory over the City College of New York on Tuesday, April 3, at MCU Park in Brooklyn.

Tait's big offensive day helped the Violets improve to 17-4 this season, while the Beavers fell to 7-8.

CCNY scored the first two runs of the game in the bottom of the second, but the Violets answered with nine of the next 10 to take a 9-3 lead through six innings of play.

The Beavers clawed back, however, and a three-run home run from Sardar Khanbilvadi made the score 9-7 midway through the seventh.

A four-run inning from the Violets in the bottom of the eighth increased the margin to six and senior captain Matthew Millus came on to pitch in the top of the ninth and sent the Beavers down in order to preserve the victory.

In addition to his five hits, Tait knocked in a pair of runs in the win, joining Colman Hendershot and Jonathan Iaione with multi-RBI games.

Five different Violets pitched in the win, including Joseph Prisco, who tossed three scoreless innings and earned his first-career win.

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS:

- NYU stole eight bases in the win, with Scott Hilbrandt and Francis Prior each swiping a pair.

- Tait finished the evening with one single, one double and three triples.

- Prisco struck out three hitters, while Ford Ladd and Gabriel Golob each struck out two.

The Violets will return to action this weekend when they travel to Troy, NY, for a three-game series against Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. NYU will take on the Engineers in a doubleheader beginning at 1pm on Saturday followed by a single game at noon on Sunday.
