Memphis - Rhodes College baseball defeated cross-town rival Christian Brothers University 12-6 Wednesday afternoon after recording 17 hits to improve to 21-10 on the year. Rhodes tallied nine runs in the fourth inning, and led 9-1 on their way to their ninth straight victory in a bullpen day for the Lynx.

CBU crossed home in the third inning without earning a hit before the Lynx blew open the game with nine runs on six singles, two doubles and a two-run home run to Ryan Palermo over the right field fence. Rhodes scored two more runs in the fifth after a double, groundout, walk, hit-by-pitch and Will Heurtin single.

CBU tallied two runs in the bottom half of the inning after the Bucs walked, secured second on a fielder's choice and error, and a sac bunt put runners on second and third. A groundout and single scored both unearned runs as the Lynx led 11-3.

The Bucs scored two more runs in the sixth after four hit-by-pitches, a walk and a single. Rhodes crossed a lone run in the seventh after Heurtin doubled to score Zach Liebenson. After two scoreless innings, CBU finished the game with a single run on a sac fly with the bases loaded.

The Lynx tallied two pickoffs, one by pitcher Alex Garrett. Garrett went for the pickoff in the second inning. He caught Parker Jordan way off guard and after Palermo caught the ball at first, Jordan started for second, only to be tagged out by Heurtin. Catcher Liebenson then picked off Jaime Soto at first base in the bottom of the sixth for the second out.

Carter King got the start, followed by Garrett in the second inning. Trey Mannion pitched the third and earned his first win of the season after not allowing a hit and striking out one batter. Ben South pitched the fourth inning while Andy Shreves pitched the fifth. Will Vance got into some trouble in the sixth and after 0.2 innings was relieved by Cameron Tinker who also threw the seventh. Tom Coggins went to the mound for Rhodes in the eighth and didn't allow a hit either while Nathan Mirochnick closed out the game in the ninth.

In the game, no pitcher allowed more than one hit during their tenure on the mound. Heurtin finished the day going three-of-five with three RBI. Liebenson, Palermo and Jon Michael Lauck each scored twice while Palermo and Brady John each recorded two RBI. The Lynx finished with three stolen bases and hit five doubles against CBU's six pitchers.

The Lynx look ahead to an SAA-filled weekend at Berry College, beginning with a doubleheader Saturday, April 7th. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. EST.
