No. 18 Golden Eagles Beat Greenville, 11-1, to Sweep Series

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The No. 16/18 ranked Golden Eagles routed Greenville, 11-1, to sweep the series improving to 21-3 overall and 8-0 in SLIAC play.

THE BASICS

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Spalding jumped out to 3-0 lead in the third inning. Garrett Wilson singled to right field bringing in Kyle Stevens from second for the first run of the game, and Wilson scored on a Joe Hatcher single to right field. Eric Meyer ripped a double to center field scoring Clay Kelly for the final run of the inning.
  • After a Greenville run in the top of the fifth, Spalding responded with four runs in the home half of the inning to take a six-run lead. A Dillon Sievert sacrifice fly to center drove in Evan Trentman, and Kelly singled to left allowing Wilson to race around from second to score. Matt Harper doubled to right scoring Kelly and Meyer for the final two runs of the inning.
  • The Golden Eagles scored four more runs in the seventh inning to run rule the Panthers. Meyer doubled scoring Kelly for the first run of the inning and Harper hit a three-run homer to end the game.      

STAT LEADERS

  • Matt Harper drove in a team-high five RBI going 2-for-4 including a home run and a double.
  • Eric Meyer went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two doubles, running his total to five extra base hits for the doubleheader.
  • Clay Kelly finished 3-for-4 with one RBI, while Garrett Wilson and Joe Hatcher each went 2-for-4 with one RBI.
  • Jack Parisi (3-1) earned the win holding Greenville to one run, on four hits, while striking out seven batters in 5.0 innings pitcher.

FOR THE FOES

  • Travis Ralls led the Panthers at the plate going 2-for-2, while Austin Marsh drove in Greenville's only run of the game.
  • Jonah Moore (1-3) suffered the loss giving up seven runs, on 10 hits, while striking out four batters in 4.2 innings pitcher.
