DALLAS, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy broke a tie game with two runs in the eighth and three in the ninth to go on and defeat Misericordia, 10-5, Monday afternoon.

Starter Nick DeRitis scattered three earned runs on five hits over seven innings full with a pair of strikeouts and just one walk to pick up the win. Teammate Dave Tatoian was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with two RBI's and a stolen base. Justin Curtin had two runs, two RBI's and two swipes.

A run-scoring single in the first from Tatoian and another in the second when Curtin scored from third on a wild pitch, helped build an early 2-0 lead.

The Cougars countered with a three-spot in the fourth using two hits, an error and a passed ball to stake a 4-3 score.

Tatoian's two-out double in the sixth capped a three spot for the Griffins as they would reclaim the lead.

DeRitis worked 1-2-3 innings in the fifth and sixth before running into trouble in the seventh. With runners at second and third, Misericordia crossed a run on a groundout and later an RBI single knotted the game up at five. DeRitis ended the seventh with a called third strike with a runner on.

Evan Miller, who led off the eighth with a walk, was sacrificed to second and ended up at third on an error on Curtin's at-bat. Now with runners at the corners, Cougar pitcher Kyle Rogalski's attempt to throw back to first went wild, allowing Miller to trot home. Curtin ended up a third and later scored on a groundout from Sachael Sciarretta.

In the ninth, back-to-back hits from Tatoian and Shaughn Wright to lead off the frame and later an intentional walk to Tommy Nardini loaded the bases with one out. Now with Miller at the plate, the Griffins crossed a run on a suicide squeeze attempt, but an error on the pitcher allowed Tatoian to score. Bobby Heck would add an RBI single and Curtin got a run home when his suicide bunt worked to perfection to allow Nardini to come home.

Tatoian was on the mound for the ninth, and induced two groundouts and ended the game with a strikeout.

Gwynedd Mercy looks to make it four in a row when they play at Immaculata in CSAC action.
