CORTLAND, N.Y. - Isiah Hudson (Hyde Park/FDR) pitched four innings of three-hit relief as Cortland defeated Fredonia, 7-0, to complete a three-game SUNYAC series sweep. The nationally 10th-ranked Red Dragons have now won 12 consecutive games and improved to an 11-1 SUNYAC record, and at 20-6 overall have reached the 20-win mark for the 29th straight year.

Cortland's next six games will be non-league contests - starting on Tuesday at Ithaca at 3:30 p.m. - before returning to league action with a road series at New Paltz beginning on April 20.

Jake Casey (Homer) started for the Red Dragons and battled through four scoreless innings while allowing six hits and two walks with two strikeouts. He survived jams in both the second and fourth inning as the Blue Devils had two runners in scoring position in both threats but could not push across a run.  After allowing a single and a wild pitch to begin the fifth, Casey gave way to Hudson, who pitched out of trouble and made it through the eighth allowing two hits and registering four strikeouts en route to his second win of the season.

Pierce Gardon took the loss for Fredonia (10-7, 1-5 SUNYAC). The starter went five innings and allowed two runs, one earned, on three hits with two walks and six strikeouts. J.T. Angora and Kevin Yirinec were each 2-for-4 for Fredonia. Joseph Coene went 1-for-2 with a walk.

The teams played three and a half scoreless innings before Cortland struck for two in the bottom of the fourth inning. Frank Vesuvio (Armonk/Byram Hills) brought in the first run on a sacrifice fly and Matt Michalski (Buffalo/St. Francis) hit a run-scoring single one batter later. Michalski was 3-for-4 with an RBI and Vesuvio had a team-high two RBI, both on sacrifice flies. Patrick Schetter (Beacon) finished 1-for-2 with two walks and two runs scored.

Cortland scored four insurance runs in the seventh on the strength of three singles and a costly Fredonia miscue. Dan Schweitzer (Poughquag/Arlington) led off the inning with a single and eventually hustled home from third on a Matthew Personius (Binghamton/Chenango Valley) shallow sacrifice fly. Then, a bases-loaded failed pickoff attempt and throwing error by Blue Devils pitcher Sam Cestra allowed two to score as he was trying to nail Antonio Pragana (Hopewell Junction/John Jay) at third. Vesuvio's second sacrifice fly of the game later in the inning gave Cortland its sixth run.

Cortland tacked on another in the eighth when Garrett Heaton (East Patchogue/Bellport) singled in Schweitzer to make the score 7-0. Schweitzer was 2-for-2 off the bench with a walk and a run scored. Heaton was also a replacement and finished 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored. Cortland subs contributed six out of the team's 10 hits in the game.

Anthony Visconte (East Islip) saw his first game action on the mound since February 23 in a scoreless ninth inning. He surrendered two singles but retired the final three hitters behind two strikeouts and a fly out to complete the win.
