When you haven't been outside to play baseball for nearly three weeks, it may take a while to get back in stride. 

Such was the case Thursday morning for the HU baseball team, which shook off a 6-3 loss in the first conference game of the season to Concordia to blast out an 11-2 win in the second game and earn a split in games played at Northwestern's field in Roseville. 

Nick Kukurich had a good day at the plate, going 5-for-8 with three runs scored, a double, a home run and four RBI for the Pipers, who are now 6-10 overall. Jeremy Szura and Nolan Schoonveld had three hits each as well. 

In Game 1, HU worked their way to a 2-0 lead only to see CC rally for six runs in the fourth inning and hold off a late rally bid for the win. 

Game 2 was a much more pleasant experience for the Pipers. Ben Resnick was superb onn the mound. The sophomore southpaw held the Cobbers hitless until the sixth inning to earn the win, improving to 3-1 on the season. Evan Bayer worked the last three innings, allowing no runs on two hits to earn the save. 

The Piper bats went to work quickly in Game 2. In the first inning, Szura doubled home one run and Kukurich followed with a single that plated two more. HU led 4-0 in the sixth inning when the Cobbers came back with a pair of tallies. Unfazed, HU responded by sending eight batters in the bottom of the inning, scoring three times. They added two more in the seventh and capped the scoring with Kukurich's two RBI homer in the eighth inning. 

Unfortunately, Mother Nature persists in causing scheduling difficulties. A nasty forecast has caused Friday's scheduled doubleheader at Buena Vista to be postponed. The next scheduled action is a Sunday twinbill at St. Olaf with the first game for a 1:00 p.m. start.
