SCRANTON, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy tied a season high with 16 hits in a game two victory as the Griffins split a CSAC Doubleheader at Marywood on Saturday. The Pacers claimed game one, 1-0, before GMercyU busted out the bats for a 15-5 win in game two.

Game one
Marywood scored the lone run of the game in the first on an RBI single. Dave Tatoian collected two hits, including a triple as did Justin Curtin who was 2-for-3 with a stolen base.

Pitcher Mike Di Ianni took the hard-luck loss, striking out four while scattering just four hits. He got out of huge spot in the fifth with the bags full and two outs, getting a strikeout to end the threat.

Gwynedd looked to answer in the sixth after a lead-off single from Ryan Keen. Keen then stole second and later got to third on a fielder's choice but was stranded as the inning ended on a grounder to short.

Game two
Seven of the 16 hits went for extra-base hits including Tatoian, who was a triple shy of the cycle, going 3-for-5 with four RBI's and four runs scored. Nick Mulvey drove in a career-high four runs adding a pair of doubles and a home run. Shaughn Wright notched three hits while knocking two runs and scoring twice.

Tatoian's two-run shot in the first was part of three-spot, to get the Griffins on the board early. For Tatoian, the homer was his 14th, moving into a tie for fourth place all-time.

Marywood countered with two in the bottom half on a pair of RBI base hits.

Keen walked with the bases loaded in the second to make it 4-2. The Pacers tied it in the third on a hit and an error.

Gwynedd crossed three runs in the fourth, one in the fifth, and three more in the sixth to build an 11-4 lead. Three more crossed home in the seventh after Tatoian doubled home Curtin and Wright drove in two with two outs.

Liam Sullivan, who stuck out four in three-plus shutout innings, picked up the win in relief of starter Gino TripodiShane McGrodyJeff Seigafuse and Tatoian each finished the seventh, eighth, and ninth innings respectively to earn the split.

The team will host Cabrini on Monday starting at 3 p.m. weather depending.
