Waterville, Maine - Junior 1B Johnny Stamatis (Ridgefield, Conn.) went 5-for-9 with four runs, two doubles, and two stolen bases to lead the visiting Trinity College Bantams to a 13/6-1/3 doubleheader sweep against the Colby College Mules in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) East Division baseball action this afternoon.  Trinity improves to 12-10 overall and take a commanding lead in the division with a 7-2 mark in the NESCAC East.  Colby falls to 4-15 overall and 1-5 in the division.  Trinity returns to action on Tuesday, April 17 at 4 p.m. at Mitchell, which is currently ranked No. 4 in the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) poll.

Trailing, 3-1, after three innings in game one, Trinity scored all 13 of ts runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth frames of the scheduled seven-inning contest.  The first four Bantam batters singled in the fourth, resulting in two runs on RBI base knocks by seniors Tyler Forgione (North Branford, Conn.) and Cooper Mooney (Southbury, Conn.).  Sophomore C Alex Rodriguex (South Windsor, Conn.) delivered with a two-run single with the bases loaded to give Trinity a 4-1 lead in the middle of the fourth.  Trinity sophomore Matt Koperniak (Adams, Mass.) smacked a two-run bomb to highlight another four-run inning in the fifth, and Mooney belted a two-run double to key Trinity's five-run sixth inning.  Sophomore RHP Alex Shafer (Baltimore, Md.) tossed a six-hitter with no walks and seven strikeouts with the only blemish coming on an RBI single by Colby's Matt Treveloni in the third inning.  He improves to 4-2.  Five Bantams had multiple hits, while Mooney and Rodriguez added three RBIs apiece.

Trinity put five runs on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning of the second game.  The first run scored on a leadoff walk by junior Tyler Buckley (Mount Kisco, N.Y.), a Stamatis single, a double steal, and an RBI groundout by Mooney. Bantam senior captain Christian Orsini (Livingston, N.J.) singled in Stamatis, and later scored on a triple by junior Carter Snyder (Lemont, Ill.).  Snyder came home on a wild pitch, and senior Brendan Pierce (Hingham, Mass.) capped off the inning with a solo homer.  Colby picked up a run on an RBI single by Keenan Iuliano in the fourth stanza, and Trinity scored an insurance run in the eighth frame on a sacrifice fly by Rodriguez.  The Mules made it interesting with two runs in the ninth inning to make it, 6-3, but Trinity senior lefty reliever McLane Hill (Marlborough, Mass.) got the last out with two runners on base to close it out.  Trinity senior Dan Marini (Nahant, Mass.) and first-year Max Barsamian (Weston, Mass.) combined to scatter seven hits and walk three with seven strikeouts.  Barsmanian came in with one out in the fifth and pitched through the eighth to collect the win and even his season mark at 1-1.  Stamatis was 3-for-5 in game two and Orsini was 2-for-4
