RIT wins 2018 home opener over The College at Brockport

ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT baseball team (8-8) won its 2018 home opener, 6-1 over The College at Brockport (14-14) from chilly Tiger Stadium.

The Tigers out-hit Brockport 11-3. RIT scored three times in the third inning and single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to build a 6-0 lead.

Senior captain Benjamin Terzini (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) reached base five times, going 3-for-3 with two walks, two runs batted in. Patrick Mylott (Aurora, OH/Western Reserve Academy) was 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles, two runs scored and a RBI. Daniel Capra (North Salem, NY/North Salem) drove in a pair of runs, while Jason Schulz (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) had two hits, including a double.

Five RIT pitchers combined on the three-hitter, striking out 12 batters. Daniel Zeglen (Scotia, NY/Scotia-Glenville) earned the start and allowed just a hit, while striking out two batters in three innings. Jameson Moran (Geneseo, NY/Geneseo) would pick up his first win of the season, striking out six batters in three hitless innings of relief. Michael Campbell (Honeoye Falls, NY/McQuaid Jesuit) pitched a perfect seventh inning with two strikeouts, while Kyle Povlock (Fairport, NY/Fairport) pitched the eighth and Capra closed out the game.

RIT batted around in the bottom of the third inning to open the scoring and take a 3-0 lead. Joey Mylott (Aurora, OH/Western Reserve Academy) led off with a triple to center field and scored when twin brother Patrick laced a double to left field. Terzini drove in Patrick to make it 2-0 Tigers. Terzini would come around to score on a single by Capra, giving RIT a 3-0 lead.

Capra would drive home Zeglen with a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning to extend the RIT lead to 4-0. Terzini would drive in a run in the sixth and Navada Waterman (Coudersport, PA/Coudersport) singled home Capra in the seventh.

RIT has won seven of the last eight meetings against Brockport, dating back to the 2014 season. The Tigers and Golden Eagles are scheduled to play a doubleheader at Brockport on April 29.

RIT is back in action at 4 p.m. Thursday at St. John Fisher College. The Tigers are home this weekend, Saturday, April 21 and Sunday, April 22 for four games against Liberty League foe Rensselaer. Saturday's doubleheader starts at 1 p.m., while Sunday's twin-bill begins at 12 p.m.
