KING'S BASEBALL WINS 18-13 SLUGFEST ON ROAD VERSUS EASTERN

ST. DAVIDS -- The King's College baseball team overcame an 11-10 deficit after six innings by scoring 10 runs over the final three innings as the Monarchs posted an important 18-13 MAC Freedom Conference victory over host Eastern University Friday in St. Davids.

With the win King's improved to 14-13 overall and 7-8 in conference play. Eastern, meanwhile, slipped to 12-16 and 4-10.

Entering the seventh inning down 11-10, the Monarchs methodically strung together six singles and had five consecutive runners reach base. Kyle Lupas, Sean Padden, and Brad Wilkins all delivered RBI singles while Shawn Stone added a sacrifice fly. Chris Rebar also brought home a run with a bases-loaded walk as the Monarchs took a 15-11 lead.

King's added two more runs in the eighth when Christian Pack reached base on an error, Rebar drew another walk, and Matt Mellinger stroked a two-run single to push the score to 17-11.

After the Eagles scored twice in the bottom of the eighth to trim the lead to 17-13, King's added its final run when Sean McKee walked and later scored on an RBI single by Rebar.

King's scored just one run over the first four innings of the game but pushed across 17 over the final five innings.

Rebar was 4-for-5 with two doubles and scored four runs while Dan Hartson went 4-for-7 with a double and scored twice. Lupas finished 3-for-6 with a two-run home run and three RBI while Mellinger was 2-for-6 with five RBI, including a three-run triple. Pack and McKee both contribute with three hits. Padden chipped in with two hits, two RBI, and a double.

In all, the Monarchs had 23 base hits and seven extra-base hits. Cooper Johnson received the win in relief for King's, going one and one-third innings.

The teams will play the final two games of their weekend series Saturday with a 1:00 PM doubleheader at Lipo Field in the Betzler Athletic Complex.
