Mitchell powers past Nichols

DUDLEY, Mass. – The Nichols College baseball team suffered a 23-7 setback to Mitchell College on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference play in Dudley, Mass.
 
The Bison drop to 7-21 overall, while the Mariners improve to 20-5. Nichols returns to Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play on Friday afternoon when it hosts Wentworth in a league doubleheader starting at 1:30 p.m.
 
Senior Cam Cook went a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate to lead the Bison, while classmate Nick Roy was 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Junior Joe Assenzawent 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI, while sophomore Xavier Quinones was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Freshman Nathaniel Cormier was 1-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored, while sophomore Kyle Bouchard drove in three runs on the day.
 
Senior Chris Anderson added a 1-for-4 day with a run scored, while Alexander Stroshine went 1-for-2 with a run scored.
 
Freshman Dario Tarquinio took the loss for the Bison, allowing four runs on four hits with three walks and a pair of strikeouts in two innings. Senior Jackson White gave up a pair of runs in an inning of work, while senior Vincent Amato was touched for a run on two hits with a strikeout in one inning. The rest of the Nichols bullpen combined to give up 15 earned runs on 16 hits over the final five innings.
 
Senior Garet Griffen led the Mitchell offense, going 5-for-6 with three RBI and five runs scored. Junior Eric Mariott was 3-for-6 with three runs scored and an RBI, while junior Peter Abate was 2-for-5 with three RBI and three runs scored.
 
Mitchell sophomore Drew Daley earned a no-decision in the start, allowing a pair of runs on seven hits in four innings. Freshman Jeff Nicolisi picked up his first win of the year, giving up four runs (two earned) on seven hits with a strikeout. Sophomore Cameron Albin and senior JJ Ruehl each worked an inning to wrap up the game.

Nichols and Mitchell have met five times in program history and the Mariners lead the all-time series, 4-1.
