RAMAPO MAKES IT 13 IN A ROW IN SWEEP AT STOCKTON

Pomona, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team wrapped up the regular season today with a sweep over Stockton University on the road in NJAC action 7-0 in game one and 6-2 in game two. The Roadrunners win their 13th straight and now stand at 29-11 overall and 13-5 in the NJAC while the Ospreys drop to 6-23 overall and 3-14 in the conference.

Game One
The Roadrunners broke through in the top of the seventh inning with two runs. The bases were loaded with one out before Austin Unglaub ripped a single into center field plating Vincenzo Sita. Joe Maugeri then drew a bases loaded two-out walk that forced home Matt Chemis for the 2-0 lead.

With one out in the top of the eighth, Sita would come around to score from second base on an infield throwing error from the Ospreys to extend the lead 3-0. Chemis then laced a single down the right field line plating Ryan MacNaughton 4-0. A sac bunt from Unglaub put runners on second and third before Anthony Kuzmenko made it a 6-0 score as he drove home Chemis and Liam Duffy with a single through the right side of the infield. In the top of the ninth, back-to-back singles from Bobby Shannon and Sita put runners on the corners with one out. Shannon then stole home to put Ramapo up 7-0.

Ramapo starting pitcher Cory Heitler (8-1) earned the win on the mound with his third shutout of the season. He struck out 14 and walked five while he scattered three hits. Kyle Haag worked the final inning for Ramapo as he struck out two and did not give up a hit.

Game Two
The Roadrunner struck first in game two with one run in the first inning. Kuzmenko walked and later scored on a wild pitch for the quick 1-0 lead. They added one run in the fourth when MacNaughton drove home Shannon with an unearned run 2-0. Unglaub then made it 4-0 with a two-RBI single plating Nick Camilleri and MacNaughton for the 4-0 lead.

Stockton got on the board with a sac fly in the fourth inning before they cut the lead to two in the fifth inning with a single up the middle from JJ Swentkowski as the Roadrunners held a 4-2 lead. Ramapo added one run in the seventh inning when Connor Walsh beat out an infield single with two outs before he moved to third on a wild pitch. Shannon then ripped a double down the left field line allowing Walsh to score 5-2. In the ninth, the Roadrunners scored the final run of the game when Joe Maugeri singled home Unglaub for the 6-2 lead. Kevin Foulds entered the game in the bottom of the ninth to close out the game for the Roadrunners. He struck out two in the relief appearance including the final out of the game.

Kevin Stewart (6-0) earned the win on the mound with seven strikeouts and five walks. He scattered three hits and surrendered two runs in five innings of work. Kyle Haag worked the sixth and seventh inning on the mound for Ramapo in relief, as he struck out three and did not give up a hit. Greg Westhelle worked the eigth inning before Foulds came into the game in the top of the ninth.

Seven different Roadrunners each collected one hit in the game while Unglaub recorded two RBI to lead the team.

The Roadrunners are currently in second place in the NJAC standings. The 2018 NJAC Baseball Tournament begins on Tuesday, May 1st at the higher seed before the tournament moves to Kean University for the weekend portion. The full NJAC Tournament bracket will be released Sunday night following the completion of all NJAC regular season games.
