Keuka College Tops SUNY Poly 12-8

MARCY, N.Y. — The Keuka College Baseball team won a rain-shorted six-inning game against SUNY Poly on Saturday.   

Keuka College (13-12, 6-3 NEAC) held a 12-8 lead in the sixth inning of game one when the skies opened up. Game two of the North Eastern Athletic Conference doubleheader was rained out.

The Wolves took an early lead as Tyler Freedman (Rochester, N.Y. / Aquinas) singled to right to score Dan Bamann (Rochester, N.Y. / Irondequoit) in the top of the first. The Wildcats answered with a run in the bottom of the inning, but Keuka College took the lead back in the top of the second on an RBI single by Dakota Skinner (Waverly, N.Y. / Tioga).

Keuka College added to their lead in the third inning with four runs to take a 7-1 lead. Tyler Krowiak (Endwell, N.Y. / Seton Catholic) hit an RBI double in the top of the fifth as the lead grew to 8-1.

SUNY Poly cut into the lead with five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, but the Wolves had a response in the sixth. The Green and Gold plated four in the frame as Dakota Skinner delivered the big hit in the inning, a two-run double. The Wildcats scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth in the rain, but the Wolves escaped the inning. At that point, the game was called by the umpires with Keuka College earning the 12-8 victory.

Lead Wolf: Dakota Skinner paced the Keuka College offense against the Wildcats. Skinner had four hits for the Wolves. The senior added three RBIs and scored two runs as well.

  • Keuka College is now 9-15 all-time against SUNY Poly
  • SUNY Poly still holds a 13-7 advantage in North Eastern Athletic Conference games
  • The Wolves have won the last three meetings with the Wildcats
  • Bryan Johnsen (Otisville, N.Y. / Minisink Valley) earned the win on the mound for Keuka, going five innings and striking out a pair
  • It was the 9th road and neutral site win for Keuka College this season, tying for third most in program history

Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves remain on the road on Sunday as they face SUNY Cobleskill in a North Eastern Athletic Conference doubleheader. It will be the first meeting between the Wolves and the Fighting Tigers since the 2011 season. The teams have split their three doubleheaders in program history.
