No. 3 UW-Whitewater Extends Win Streak to Six

The No. 3 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater baseball team downed St. Scholastica, 13-1, in a non-conference match-up Monday afternoon at Prucha Field at James B. Miller Stadium in Whitewater, Wis.

 

The Warhawks ended the game early in the seventh inning due to run rule and tallied three homers, including two from sophomore designated hitter Alex Doud and senior right fielder Brett Krause. Doud posted three hits, two runs and six RBI in the victory.

 

Senior Austin Jones pitched the first five innings for the Warhawks (23-4 overall) and collected the victory, making his season record 5-2, and tallying 10 strikeouts.  Sophomore Riley Gruetzmacher finished the game at the mound and recorded two strikeouts.

 

Senior Cal Aldridge collected three hits, three runs and one RBI.  Junior Mike Aiello and junior Matt Wary each registered two hits and two runs.

 

In the first inning, a single from Doud to through the right side sent Aldridge in for the Warhawks' first run on the game.

 

St. Scholastica (17-8) responded in the top of the second inning with a home run to tie the score, 1-1.

 

Krause and Doud each homered in the fourth. Krause hit a high, deep, two-run shot to left, and Doud mashed a three-run long ball make the score 8-1. 

 

UW-Whitewater continued its hot hitting in the sixth inning.  Junior Nick Schrader singled to the right side and Wary tallied the run.

 

A sacrifice fly from senior Blake Fleischman sent Schrader in to add a run.

 

Doud's second homer, a two-run shot, accounted for the final margin of the game.

 

UW-Whitewater posted 14 hits compared to just four by the Saints and committed zero errors in the victory.

 

The Warhawks continue play Tuesday with one nine-inning game at 3 p.m. against St. Norbert College at Miller Stadium.
