Peters Powers Scranton Baseball To 13-3 Win Over Lebanon Valley

Sophomore infielder Brandon Peters (Peckville, Pa./Valley View) tripled, doubled twice, scored three times and drove in two runs to lead The University of Scranton baseball team to a 13-3 win over Lebanon Valley in a non-conference game at Volpe Field on Monday night.

The Royals (18-16) won their fourth straight game by scoring six times in the second inning, once in the third and three times in both the sixth and eighth innings.

Scranton also received a single, double, three RBIs and a run from freshman designated hitter Ben Grochowski (Old Forge, Pa./Old Forge). Senior third baseman Patrick Mergel (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) singled twice, scored a run and drove in a run, and sophomore shortstop Travis Adams (Clark, N.J./St. Joseph's-Metuchen) singled twice, stole two bases and scored a run.

Freshman righty Tony Molitoris (Hanover Township, Pa./Holy Redeemer) was the beneficiary of the offensive outburst. He picked up his first career win with seven solid innings, allowing three runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out five. Freshman righty Colin Sommers (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) tossed a pair of scoreless innings of relief, walking one and striking out two.

The Royals will be back in action Tuesday night when they host Stevens Tech at 7 p.m. at Volpe Field.
