DUFFY DRIVES THREE HITS; RAMAPO ADVANCES IN NJAC PLAYOFFS

Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team, seeded #2 in the 2018 New Jersey Athletic Conference Tournament, won their first game of the tournament today as they defeated the #5 seeded Cougars of Kean University, 4-3 with the game winning run coming in the bottom of the 9th. With the victory, the Roadrunners advance to play #4 seeded Profs of Rowan University at 7pm on Friday, May 4th as the entire tournament moves to Kean University.

Evan Ochlan would score the game winning run as he crossed the plate on an infield error to put Ramapo on top, 4-3. Ochlan pinch ran in the inning for Liam Duffy, who hit 3-4 on the day. Duffy singled earlier in the inning to get on base.

Joe Maugeri was perfect at the plate as he hit 3-3 scoring two runs. Austin Unglaub went 1-5 with one run scored. Connor Walsh collected one hit on two at bats as he drove in one run and Bobby Shannon drove in a run of his own. Matt Chemis hit 1-4 in the win.

Jerry D'Andrea started the game for Ramapo and pitched 7.2 innings. He struck out five and let up three runs. Kevin Foulds came into the game pitching the final 1.1 innings. He gets the win to improve to 2-2 on the year. He struck out one and let up no runs.

Ramapo would score first in the bottom of the 1st inning after Shannon recorded a sac fly scoring Ungluab and Maugeri scored on a passed ball. Maugeri would reach first on a single to left earlier in the inning.

The Cougars closed the gap in the 6th inning with a run from Brandon Johannessen as he walked to lead off and came home on a single from John Carello. In the 8th the Cougars would take the lead off a run each from Nick Polizzano and Frank LoGiudice to take a 3-2 lead.

Ramapo responded quickly in the bottom of the inning as Maugeri came home on a Walsh double to left field. Maugeri reached first base when he singled to the shortstop.

With the game tied at 3-3, Duffy would collect a single, Chemis followed with a single, and after Ochlan pinch ran for Duffy, he would score on an infield error by Kean to take the game, 4-3.

Carello went 2-4 on the day with two RBI and Polizzano went 1-4 with one run scored. LoGiudice hit 1-5 with one run scored and Johannessen scored a run of his own.

Justin Diefenbach gets the loss in 8.2 innings pitched. He struck out six and walked three while letting up ten hits.
