The Oglethorpe baseball team had a tough day Friday at Anderson Field, falling to No. 13 Christopher Newport 19-3. The Stormy Petrels allowed multiple runs in four innings and the visiting Captains hit four home runs en route to the victory. With the loss, the Petrels fell to 1-4 on the young season.

Things started off well for the Petrels, as senior first baseman Andrew Mink doubled with one out in the first inning and senior right fielder Patrick Burnette followed with an a run-scoring single to give Oglethorpe a 1-0 lead. However, Christopher Newport answered with a three-run homer in the second and two-run homers in the third and fifth, both hit by first baseman Nicholas Baham.

The Petrels answered back with single runs in the seventh and eighth, the former coming from an Austin Jackson RBI single and the latter from a pinch-hit double off the bat of senior Dylan Leonard. However, the Captains tallied nine runs off Oglethorpe pitching in the ninth inning, pulling away to the 16-run victory.

Oglethorpe managed seven hits against Christopher Newport, but no player tallied more than one. All five Oglethorpe pitchers gave up at least one run, though single runs allowed by junior right-hander Kyle Blakeney and freshman lefty Noah Schroyer were unearned.

The Petrels will be back in action Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m., when they welcome Pacific Lutheran to Anderson Field at 3 p.m. After that, they'll host George Fox Sunday at 3 p.m.
