Oxy Beats Whitworth in Game 1, Improves to 5-0

LOS ANGELES — The Occidental baseball team rallied for three runs in the bottom of the third and then picked it up in the late innings in a 6-3 win over Whitworth at Anderson Field in Game 1 of a doubleheader on Saturday.

The Tigers improve to 5-0 on the season.

Nolan McCarthy picked up his second win of the season as Oxy's starter, going six innings with three earned runs and eight strikeouts. He got help from some solid relief help with Ian Vogenthaler and Louie Kim, who combined for three scoreless innings.

Eamon McNeil went 2 for 4 with a pair of RBIs, including a single that put Oxy in the lead in the third. After Whitworth had got to within one at 4-3, he drove in another run to give Oxy some breathing room.

Bryan Smith went 1 for 4 with a solo home run. Jake Fredickson was 1 for 3 with a run scored and Antonio Andrade was 1 for 4 with two runs scored and an RBI.
