Union, N.J. (2/23/19) – The Kean University baseball team rallied with four ninth inning runs to push past #11 Misericordia University by the final of 6-5 on Saturday afternoon.

Trailing 5-2 coming into their last at-bat, Kean (5-1) walked the bases loaded with no outs (pinch-hitter Tim Huxen, John Carello and Chris Vetter).  Frank LoGiudice followed with his own walk to inch Kean closer, 5-3.  Zachary Marzano broke up the walk streak with an RBI single to pull Kean within one.  That set up Nick Polizzano who lined a shot just out of reach of the third baseman down the line for the game winning runs and the walk-off win.

Kean entered the eighth inning down 4-0.  LoGiudice, Marzano and Polizzano all got on with singles and rookie Michael Lapczynski cut the deficit in half with a two RBI double.

Misericordia (2-1) tacked on a single run in the top of the ninth to try and add insurance.  Austin Miles collected a one out single and swiped second before moving to third on an error.  He would score on a sac fly from Tyler Holzapfel.

Kean pounded out 13 hits as the middle of the lineup collected 11.  Marzano, Polizzano and Lapczynski all had three while LoGiudice registered two.

Reliever Kyle Gaeb earned his second win of the season after tossing two thirds of an inning in the ninth.  He allowed no runs and no hits with one walk and one strikeout.  Reliever Kyle Melahn suffered the loss after entering in the bottom of the ninth.  He allowed four runs, all earned, with two hits and four walks.

Offensively for Misericordia Holzapfel was 1-for-3 with three RBI in the loss.

Kean returns to action on Sunday when they host FDU-Florham.
