Sewanee Baseball Win Streak Improves to Five with Sweep of Carroll

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Sewanee baseball team collected a three-game sweep of Carroll University on Sunday and Monday inside Montgomery Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 1
-Carroll scored five runs in the first two innings, capped off by a four-run second inning.

-The rest of the game belonged to Sewanee from the bottom of the second onward. Jared Demkowicz broke the shutout with an RBI single.

-The Tigers used what the defense gave them in the fourth to score two runs to make it a 5-3 affair. Demkowicz scored on a fielding error, while Trey Akins brought Carter Huffman home on a sacrifice fly.

-In the sixth, Chris McNulty recorded an RBI single to make it a 5-4 affair.

-The Tigers captured the lead for the first time in the seventh. With runners on first and third base, Bryce Benedict punched an RBI single to even the score.

-Demkowicz followed with an RBI single of his own to give Sewanee the lead, 6-5.

-Benedict later scored to add some cushion thanks to an error by Carroll.

-The Tigers' defense recorded double plays in the seventh and eighth that helped allow the offense to claim the lead.

HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 2
-The Tigers' offense was rolling in the second game Sunday afternoon, scoring eight runs on seven hits in the bottom of the first. 12 batters came to the plate, and seven straight batters reached base.

-Sewanee added five runs in the second to lead 13-0 through two innings en route to a 15-5 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 3
-In the series finale on Monday morning, the Pioneers struck first in the top of the first, but the home team answered in the bottom half. Sewanee scored three runs. Tyler Dunbar recorded a sacrifice fly to even the score. Riley Brandvold followed with an RBI double before Max Murray recorded a productive at bat with an RBI groundout.

-In the second, Chris McNulty posted two RBI with a double to push the lead to 5-1.

The Tigers added four more runs, capped by a homer by Jared Demkowicz in the fourth.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Jared Demkowicz posted a 4-for 9 weekend with five walks and four runs scored and RBI each.

-Riley Brandvold recorded a 5-for-8 weekend with five free passes, six runs and two RBI. He launched his first dinger of the season.

-The Tigers finished the weekend with 23 walks, including 11 in the series finale.

-Justin Lavender (1-0) won the opener in relief. While the offense recorded the comeback, Lavender posted four shutout innings, recording three hits and a walk, and punching out three. Of the four innings he pitched, two saw his defense record a twin killing.

-Andrew Naspinski (1-0) took the second game with a scoreless fifth in game two, while Demkowicz (1-1) tossed five innings of one earned run ball.

CARROLL KEY STATISTICS
-Mathew Putman posted an 8-for-12 series with four RBI and three runs scored.
