BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern baseball team defeated the Roanoke College Maroons 7-0 on Monday evening, improving to 9-4 on the year.

Early offensive production and shutdown pitching propelled the Panthers to the win, a combined no-hitter against the Maroons.

Sophomore Adam Richards (Santa Rose Beach, Fla./South Walton HS) got the start for BSC and pitched four no-hit innings. Junior southpaw Hanan Mauldin (Florence, Ala./Florence HS) came in in relief and continued to sit down batters, pitching two shutout innings and earning up his first win of the season.

Preston Jenkins (Roswell, Ga./St. Pius X HS), Tristan Harvin (Dothan, Ala./Houston Academy) and Paul Williamson (Mobile, Ala./St. Luke's Episcopal) finished out the combined no-hitter, each pitching one inning.

Offensively, Birmingham-Southern started off hot with four runs in the bottom of the fourth. Sophomore third baseman Preston Munns (Marietta, Ga./Lassiter HS) knocked in two runs with a single to left center and catcher Will Evans (Peachtree City, Ga./Starrs Mill HS) followed it up with his own two-RBI single to make it 4-0.

Munns would cap the scoring for the game in the third inning when he smashed a three-run home run over the left centerfield wall, giving the home team a 7-0 lead.

From the fourth inning on, both pitching staffs dominated as neither team could find a hit for the remainder of the game.

The win extended Birmingham-Southern's winning streak to seven games. In that span, the Panthers have batted .291 and scored 46 runs. The BSC pitching staff has allowed just 10 earned runs, struck out 65 and has an ERA of 1.43.

Birmingham-Southern will return to Striplin Field on Tuesday, March 5 to finish out the series against Roanoke. First pitch for the game is scheduled for 4 p.m.
