Oglethorpe falls to Adrian in two-game sweep

More news about: Oglethorpe

The Oglethorpe baseball team fell to the visiting Adrian Bulldogs Saturday at Anderson Field 18-1 as the visitors scored five runs in the first to turn the game in their favor and eight in the seventh to put the game away. With the loss, the Stormy Petrels fell to 5-9 on the season.

Adrian began the game with a five-spot in the first inning off Oglethorpe junior right-hander Noah Cole. Cole settled down for several innings after that, though, and held the Bulldogs scoreless until the fifth. However, the Petrels couldn't muster any offense off of Adrian starter Jordan Williams. They finished the game with just five hits off Bulldog pitching.

The visitors began expanding their lead in the fifth, scoring three runs in that frame and two more in the sixth. They put the game away with eight runs in the seventh inning.

The Petrels broke up the shutout in the eighth when they scored an unearned run on a passed ball, but they were shut down most of the day as they put just seven baserunners aboard for the game. Adrian, meanwhile, accrued 19 hits, six walks and a hit batsman.

Oglethorpe will be back in action Sunday at 5 p.m., when they'll take on Case Western Reserve from Anderson Field in the first of a two-game set. The game was pushed back three hours due to forecast morning rain in the Atlanta area.
