Sewanee Baseball Falters Twice to Berry

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Sewanee baseball team were swept by the defending Southern Athletic Association Regular Season Champions in Berry in a Sunday doubleheader, falling 13-8 and 9-5.

HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 1
-Sewanee saw themselves down 10-0 after one inning of play.

-After Berry added a run in the bottom of the third inning, Sewanee tacked on five runs in the fifth to avoid the shutout. With the bases loaded, Riley Brandvold started the merry-go-round after being beaned with a pitch. Earning the well-deserved plate appearance, Jack Galanek scored on the play.

-Trey Akins kept the line moving with a base knock through the left side to bring home Josh Roberts.

-Carter Huffman and Max Murray, in back-to-back plate appearances, each coaxed a free pass and moved the runners around.

-Following a pitching change by the Vikings, Galanek, in his second plate appearance of the inning, reached base on a free pass to score Akins.

-Berry added two runs in the sixth, but things got interesting in the ninth. With two batters on and one out, pinch hitter Jack Ahlum launched a three-run dinger to cut the deficit to 13-8.

-Following a pitching change, despite walks by pinch hitter Jake Woolard and Roberts, the game ended on a foul out.

HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 2
-Despite Berry collecting the early 1-0 advantage after one inning of play, the visitors responded with back-to-back RBI hits. Max Murray brought Jack Ahlum home on a base hit.

-Next up, Josh Roberts gave Sewanee the 3-1 lead with a two-run double to clear the bases. Tyler Dunbar and Roberts scored.

-The Vikings' bats came to life, however, in the bottom half. The home team scored four times to reclaim the lead, 5-3.

-In the next half inning, Trey Akins send a fly ball over the left field fence for a solo home run to cut the deficit to one run, 5-4.

-The one-run deficit would be as close as Sewanee would get, as Berry put up another four-run inning in the bottom half of the third.

-Sewanee added a run in the top of the fourth with an RBI groundout by Dunbar.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Trey Akins (1) and Jack Ahlum (1) each recorded home runs in the contest.

-Josh Roberts drove in two RBI in the second game.

-Foster Olson (0-1) took the loss in the opener, while Dalton Buckingham (2-1) suffered the loss in the nightcap.

-As a team, Sewanee recorded 10 walks in the doubleheader, nine coming in game one.

BERRY KEY STATISTICS
-Dylan Beasley recorded four hits over the doubleheader, including three in game one. On the mound for game two (2-0), he earned the win, striking out four.

-Milan Sutaria (1-0) earned the win in game one, tossing 3.1 innings of relief.
