Washington Busts Open Game Versus Northwestern (Minn.) with Five-Run Fifth Sparked by Three HRs in 13-2 Victory
FORT PIERCE, Fla. – The Washington College baseball team improved to 8-0 on the season for the first time since 1939 in a 13-2 win over Northwestern (Minn.) on Tuesday evening at the Lakewood Complex as the Shoremen launched four home runs in the win, including three in a four plate appearance span in the top of the fifth inning. The Eagles drop to 3-2.

How It Happened
- The Shoremen got on the board in the top of the third inning when Chris Baker scored on a two-out error by the Eagles for the game's opening run.
- Joe Otto scored on a suicide squeeze bunt by Chris Kramedas with one away to give Washington a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth. The next hitter with two outs, Baker doubled to center to score CJ Gillmer to make it 3-0.
- In the top of the fifth the Shoremen scored five times and hit three home runs. WC led off the inning with back-to-back home runs as Ryan Zwier started the barrage with a home run to center to give the Shoremen a four-run edge and Aaron Barclay followed with a long ball to left-center to push the lead to 5-0. Two hitters later, Jack Kingman socked a two-run blast to left-center to extend the advantage to seven that also scored Dylan Nepert. Otto capped the five-run fifth as he scored on an RBI groundout off the bat of Baker.
- Each team scored a run in the sixth inning, both runs in the inning coming on sacrifice flies.
- Northwestern got a run in the last of the seventh before Washington scored three times in the top of the eighth, highlighted by a two-run home run by Nepert that made it 12-2.
- The Shoremen tacked on one more run in the top of the ninth to provide the final margin.

- Washington had 12 hits, drew two walks and had four reach on hit by pitch while leaving eight on base.
- The Shoremen had two errors in the game, leading to zero Eagles run.
For Northwestern (Minn.) (3-2)
- Hitting: Aaron Krahn (2-for-3), Andrew Simonson (two walks)
- Pitching: Chad Wakabayashi (loss 0-1, four-plus innings, six hits, seven runs, six earned, two walks, three strikeouts)
- The Eagles notched five hits, drew four base on balls and had three get on via hit by pitch as they left 11 on base.
- Northwestern committed three errors in the game, leading to two Washington runs.
Notes
- Barclay homered for the second time on the Florida trip and has hit three of the team's six taters this season.
- Prior to tonight, Osgood's career long for innings pitched was 3 1/3 innings on March 13, 2018 versus Earlham.
- Washington previously went deep four times in a single game on March 1, 2016 at Salisbury.
