Scranton Doubled Up by Ohio Wesleyan, 14-7

Port Charlotte, Fla. – Ohio Wesleyan scored built a 10-0 lead over the first four innings of Tuesday night's non-conference baseball game against The University of Scranton and held on for a 14-7 victory as the two teams continued their spring break trips in Florida.

The Bishops improved to 4-1 on the season with the victory while the Royals slipped to 2-4 overall.

Freshman Chris Wagner (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) powered Scranton's offense, going 4-for-5 at the plate with two RBI and two runs scored. 

Freshman Tyler Kirsten (Wallenpaupack, Pa./Wallenpaupack Area) went 3-for-3 and scored twice, sophomore Connor Harding (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) added a pair of hits, and junior Matt Fisch (Spring Brook Township, Pa./North Pocono) drove in a pair of runs in the loss.

Ohio Wesleyan scored four runs in the second, one in the third, and used a five-run top of the fourth to open up the 10-run advantage.

Scranton got on the board in the bottom of the fourth and plated two more runs in the fifth inning to cut its deficit to 10-3.

The Bishops answered with a three-run sixth inning to push its lead to 13-3 before a two-run double from Fisch in the home sixth cut the Royals' deficit to eight runs.

Ohio Wesleyan got a run back in the visitor's seventh before Scranton capped the scoring in the bottom half of the frame on a two-run base hit from Wagner.

Freshman James Gadue (West Hartford, Conn./Hall) suffered the loss despite striking out four batters over the first 3.1 innings.  The Royals used six arms out of the bullpen to complete the remainder of the contest.

Scranton returns to the diamond on Wednesday with a non-conference matchup against Eastern Connecticut State starting at 3:00 p.m. in Port Charlotte, Fla.
