Lions' Win Streak Extends to Seven with 5-2 Win Over Oglethorpe

DEMOREST, Ga. - Against Oglethorpe Tuesday, the Piedmont College baseball team extended its win streak to seven games with a 5-2 win over the Stormy Petrels. The Piedmont pitching staff combined to allow just two runs on five hits with TYLER FAIRCHILD earning his first win as a Lion.

Both teams went scoreless in the first, but back-to-back singles by JONATHEN BURKETTand EVAN MEADE left two on for NOAH HEATHERLY who drove them in with a double in the second. Piedmont posted three hits in that inning but would not get another hit until the fifth inning when BRADY BALLSTADT singled to score ZACHARY SWINDELL giving PC a 3-0 lead. 

The Stormy Petrels answered back with a run in the sixth and another in the seventh to cut into the lead, threatening in the seventh, but Austin Jackson was thrown out at third on a nice play by Heatherly and Trawick as he was caught stealing.

Trawick stepped up big in the bottom of the seventh with his first career hit, a double, putting two in scoring position for CAMERON JOHNSON who singled to send them home and secure the lead. 

CARTER BALLSTADT pitched the eighth while MATT VONDERSCHMIDT got the nod in the ninth. 

Turning Point
--A CAMERON JOHNSON single in the seventh inning drove in two to provide the insurance needed in what was then a 3-2 game. 

Standout Performances
--NOAH HEATHERLY was 2-for-4 from the plate with two RBI, the two runs that put the Lions out in front to start the scoring. 
--The Piedmont bullpen continues to impress as CARTER BALLSTADT posts a 0.00 ERA through 6.1 innings and MATT VONDERSCHMIDT earned his third save of the season.
