Magic Continues as Lions Walk-Off for 6-5 win Over William Peace

DEMOREST, Ga. – The Piedmont College baseball team walked off for a 6-5 win on TYLER BURDETTE's two-run single in the bottom of the ninth against William Peace on Sunday evening at Loudermilk Field.
 
The Lions (12-4, 5-1 USA South) struck for single runs in the second and third before William Peace (3-9, 0-3 USA South) responded with a grand-slam in the top of the fourth to take a 4-2 lead.
 
Trailing, 5-3, heading into the bottom of the ninth, Piedmont took advantage of two walks and a hit by pitch, setting the stage for Burdette's heroics to give PC its second walk-off win of the season.
 
DAVID CRAFT improved to 3-0 on the season after pitching two scoreless innings in relief.
 
EVAN MEADE's 14th RBI of the season gave PC a 1-0 lead, scoring ANDREW BURDENfrom third base in the bottom of the second.
 
The Lions added another run in the bottom of the third as BRADY BALLSTADT took second on a wild pitch, stole third and then came home on another wild pitch to put the Lions up 2-0.
 
William Peace responded with three singles in the top of the fourth, setting the stage for Tyler Tilson's grand-slam to right field, giving the Pacers a 4-2 lead.
 
After PC got the run back on Ballstadt's second run of the game in the bottom of the fifth, William Peace added another run in the top of the sixth to go back up by two.
 
Craft entered in the top of the eighth and threw two scoreless innings to keep the Lions in the game. 
 
With one out and nobody on in the bottom of the ninth, TYLER SHELEY drew a walk before CAMERON JOHNSON reached on a slow roller in which Sheley beat the second basemen's flip to second base.
 
Ballstadt was hit by the first pitch he saw, loading the bases for Burden, whose bases-loaded walk put Piedmont within a run.
 
That set the stage for Burdette, who hit a sharp line drive into left center field as Ballstadt raced home for the winning run.
 
Up next, the Lions will conclude their series against the Pacers on Monday with a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m.
 
TURNING POINT:
- The Lions were trailing by a run when Burdette stepped up and delivered his second hit of the contest, driving home Johnson and Ballstadt to give PC its 12th win of the season.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- After missing the team's past four games with an injury, Burdette made his presence known in his return to the lineup, recording two hits including his second walk-off single of the season in the ninth.
EVAN MEADE broke out in a big way, recording three hits and delivering an RBI.
- Left-hander SAM CARPENTER recorded eight strikeouts in seven strong innings on the mound.
