Lions Drop Series Finale to Pfeiffer 8-5

MISENHEIMER, N.C. - In the series finale v. Pfeiffer, the Piedmont College baseball team was unable to complete the comeback falling 8-5 to the Falcons. The Lions loaded the bases in the top of the ninth but a pair of strikeouts ended the game. 

Piedmont took an early lead 2-0 in the first after a single and back-to-back walks to BRADY BALLSTADT and ANDREW BURDEN left the bases loaded for FOWLER BROOKS. Brooks reached on an error and the Lions put two on the board, but that was the last inning Piedmont would plate runs until the eighth.

The Falcons got rolling offensively with one run in the first then four runs on five hits in the second inning to claim a 5-2 lead. In the third inning, Pfeiffer chased Piedmont starter MAX BENING with DAVID CRAFT entering in relief. 

Craft surrendered two runs but pitched 3.1 innings allowing just two hits and striking out six batters. Piedmont struggled to capitalize on opportunities leaving the bases loaded in three innings and left runners on in each inning but the seventh.

Turning Point
--Piedmont was able to hit the ball well in the contest but left 17 batters stranded on the basepaths. 

Standout Performances
--WES SNYDERBRADY BALLSTADT and TYLER SHELEY all had a pair of hits in the game including a double. 

Inside the Box Score
--The Lions outhit the Falcons 11-9 in the contest. 

News & Notes
--The loss marks the first loss in conference play for the Lions who have claimed series wins over both Brevard and Pfeiffer to begin the season.
