DEMOREST, Ga. - In the 2019 USA South conference opener for the Piedmont College baseball team, the Lions coasted to a 15-1 and a 16-2 win over Brevard Monday. The 3-game series was altered due to weather/field concerns over the weekend with game three of the series postponed to a later date. 

SAM CARPENTER was dominant on the mound sending the first 12 batters he faced back to the dugout. Carpenter picked up the win in game one with five innings pitched allowing one hit and striking out seven. 

RYAN COX earned the start in game two pitching four innings also allowing just one hit and striking out seven with BRYAN WHITACRE earning the win in relief. 

Piedmont scored early and often Monday with a total of 31 runs in the two games led by ANDREW BURDEN's 5-for-5 day at the plate. The Lions had six different players post multi-hit games including Burden and EVAN MEADE accomplishing it in both games. 

Meade went yard with his second homerun of the year while several Lions recorded their first hits of their career. 

Turning Point
--SAM CARPENTER was lights out on the mound as he was perfect through four innings allowing just one hit in the fifth, his final inning. 
--The Lions forced a pitching change after just one out in the second game tacking on seven runs in the first inning. 

Standout Performances
--The Piedmont pitching staff allowed just four hits in each game with a total of 18 strikeouts. 
--ANDREW BURDEN was 5-for-5 with seven runs scored, five RBI and two walks. 

Inside the Box Score
--Both BRADY BALLSTADT and ANDREW BURDEN hit a pair of triples with Ballstadt's coming in game one and Burden's in game two. 
--The Lions won both contests in seven innings per the USA South's rule (12 runs after seven innings).

News & Notes
--The Lions scored 31 of their 91 runs in 2019 on Monday.
