Wild Pitch Walk-off Paces Sewanee Baseball to Split of Doubleheader Against Oglethorpe

SEWANEE, Tenn. - For the second time this week, the Sewanee baseball team walked off an opposing team. A 10th inning wild pitch was the deciding run, as they downed Oglethorpe, who had 10 hits, 1-0 in the second game of the doubleheader from Montgomery Field. In the series opener earlier in the day, the Petrels took the contest, 7-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 1
-The Stormy Petrels got out to a 7-0 lead after five and a half of innings of play.

-Sewanee, who was held hitless for the first 5.2 innings of play, scored twice in the seventh on back-to-back base hits by Josh Roberts and Trey Akins.

-In the ninth, the Tigers made it a 7-3 affair as Trey Akins scored on a Petrel error.

-The Tigers had the bases loaded in the frame and the tying run at the plate, but the visitors prevailed to hold off the late rally.

HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 2
-Scheduled to be a seven-inning game, this contest was forced into extras after no runs scored.

-In the eighth, Sewanee had the go-ahead run at third base, but he was held there as the final out was recorded as a foul out.

-The Tigers defense came out strong in the ninth. With a runner on and one out, Trey Akins caught a liner and doubled off the runner.

-In the bottom half, the Tigers had another golden opportunity to win the contest, but with runners at second and third, the frame ended on a strikeout.

-In the 10th, the Tigers worked around a one-out double with back-to-back punchouts by Danny McDonnell.

-In the bottom half of the frame, Riley Brandvold led off the frame with a triple. After two outs and two intentional walks to load the bases, Brandvold came across on a wild pitch to secure the 1-0 win.

-The teams had plenty of opportunities to get runs across. Sewanee, who walked seven times in the game, left 10 on base, while Oglethorpe, who had 10 hits, left 12 runners stranded.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Trey Akins recorded a multi-hit game in the opener, adding an RBI and run scored.

-Jack Ahlum and Garrett Liebe each scored for the Tigers.

-In the second game, Danny McDonnell (1-0) tossed four shutout innings, striking out two batters.

OGLETHORPE KEY STATISTICS
-Patrick Burnette posted four hits on the day, three coming in the nightcap.

-Noah Cole (2-2) earned the win in game one, tossing 6.2 innings and allowing two unearned runs. Caleb Feibus (0-3) suffered the loss in the second game.
