Birmingham, Ala. - Rhodes College baseball defeated Birmingham-Southern 9-6 on 14 hits Sunday afternoon, taking two games on the road from the No. 23-ranked Panthers. On Saturday, BSC took game one 6-5 before Rhodes won the second game 10-2. The Lynx move to 10-10 overall and 3-3 in conference while BSC drops to 15-6 and 4-2.

Rhodes got on the scoreboard first, tallying one run in the second inning after freshman Wood Kimbrough led with a double to center. He scored when Ryan Palermo doubled down the right field line three pitches later. Rhodes took a 6-0 lead in the top of the third after two singles and a hit by pitch loaded the bases to start the inning. The next three Lynx each singled to score four runs before the Lynx also walked, forcing BSC to change pitchers. With one out, another hit drove in the fifth run of the inning before BSC turned a double play to end the top half of the inning.

Two walks, two singles and two fielder's choices crossed two runs for the Panthers in the bottom of the sixth. BSC pulled within one with three runs in the fifth on three hits, a walk and a hit by pitch. The hosts then tied the game in the sixth on a solo home run. Rhodes stepped to the plate in the top of the eighth to face a new pitcher and rattled off three runs. With one out, Zach Liebenson singled before Ben Wilson walked. Paul Giacomazzi recorded the game-winning RBI on a single to right center. Wilson had to vacate third base after he was caught stealing, but then Brady John was hit by a pitch and Jacob Telli walked to load the bases once again. Will Heurtin then recorded a two-RBI single to right field to finish the scoring for the day.

In the bottom of the ninth, Kimbrough made a nice diving stop at third base to earn the leadoff out. After a walk, Rhodes won the game on a double play as Heurtin stepped on second and threw to Bosma at first.

Heurtin tallied three RBI and Palermo two after both went two-of-five. Kimbrough and Giacomazzi also went two-of-five as both scored two runs and recorded an RBI each. John finished the game with a walk and two runs scored after he went two-of-three at the plate. On the day, the Lynx recorded three doubles, stole two bases, and turned two double plays.

Carter King earned the win. He entered the game in the sixth inning, struck out two and allowed two hits in three innings of work. Nathan Mirochnick earned the save pitching the ninth inning and facing three batters.

Rhodes will host Christian Brothers University on Wednesday at 3 p.m. before returning to conference action this weekend. The Lynx will host Millsaps beginning with a doubleheader at noon on Saturday.
