Herdball starts Florida trip with pair of wins

The Nichols College baseball team opened up their annual Florida trip with a pair of wins over Ursinus College at Lake Region High School in Eagle Lake, Florida.
 
Game 1 – Nichols 9 Ursinus 6
 
Nichols freshman David Caron opened up the scoring in game one with a two-run home run to left field to put the Bison (3-5) on top 2-0 after one inning of play. The Bears (4-3) fought back and took a 4-3 lead in the fourth inning after Tom Jacobs took a ball down the left field line and hit the top of the foul pole for a two-run shot. After giving up three-run in the top of the fourth inning the Bison answered back with a four-run bottom half that gave them the lead for good, headlined by a double to left field that drove in two runs from junior Christian Naccari.
 
Nichols sent sophomore Justin Hurley to the hill for game one, he went four innings, giving up six runs on nine hits, and striking out three en-route to his first win of the 2019 season. Freshman Isaac Blanford came into the top of the seventh inning and sent one Bear packing to earn his first save of the season.
 
Game 2 – Nichols 8 Ursinus 4
 
Nichols sent sophomore Robert Cobb to the mound for game two, after only 0.2 of inning and giving up three runs on four hits, freshman Brendan Duffy got the nod and proceeded to pitch 6.1 innings, with only one run on two hits, while fanning five Bears batters. Duffy ultimately ended up with the win, his first in his collegiate career.
 
The Bison offense was headlined by Naccari, 4-for-5, with three runs scored and two home runs, both solo shots to left field. Freshman Kyle Desjardins and sophomore Nathaniel Cormier both collected multiple hits and a run scored to help propel the Bison (4-5) to their second win of the day.
 
Three things you need to know…
-After hitting three home runs as a team today, the Bison now have 10 on the season, surpassing last seasons total of eight.
-Nichols has now opened up it's Florida trip 2-0 for the second time in the past three years.
-Naccari went 6-for-8, with four RBI, and four runs scored combined on the day.
