Boxers Walk-Off For Second-Straight Win

More news about: Pacific

For the second-straight game, the Pacific University baseball team won in walk-off fashion as they edged Whitman by a 2-1 margin on Sunday at Chuck Bafaro Stadium.

The old-fashioned pitchers duel was not settled until Pacific senior left fielder Hayden Wright ripped 1-2 pitch over the left-field fence for his first career home run in the bottom of the 10th inning.

Pacific (15-6, 9-3 NWC) got a solid outing from starting pitcher Sam Lawrence, who in a no decision, went nine innings, allowing four hits, a run (earned) and striking out four. Derek Ridgway pitched a scoreless 10th prior to the heroics in the bottom of the inning for his first win as a pitcher.

Whitman (9-12, 4-5 NWC) went ahead in the ninth on a solo home run by Tyler Lewis.

The Boxers called on Saturday's hero Ryan Krout to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth. With one out, the Washougal, Washington native hit his third home run of the weekend to tie the game at 1. The home run was his second hit of the day.

Playing in their third extra-inning game of the season, Ridgway overcame a two out double down the right-field line to get a strikeout to bring the Boxers back to bat. Then, with one out against Blues' reliever Milo Mancin, Wright hit his first career home run to give the Boxers its second-straight, walk-off win.

Krout and Wright each had two hits to account for four of the Boxers' seven hits in the win.

Next, Pacific will step away from the rigors of Northwest Conference play for a non-conference matchup with Corban on Tuesday, Mar. 19 at 5 p.m. and a pair of doubleheaders against Whittier on Friday, Mar. 22 at 3 p.m. and Saturday, Mar. 23 at 1 p.m. All five games will be played at Chuck Bafaro Stadium.
