Jonathan Lezette went 3-for-5 with two home runs and six RBI as the SUNY Oneonta baseball team defeated Wells College 11-3 in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon.

The Inside Story


Oneonta (8-8) got on the board in the top of the third when Jonathan Lezette smacked a solo home run over the left centerfield fence. The Red Dragons added to their lead on a Dominic Lamonica RBI single, scoring David Deberardinis. Sean McGlynn capped off the inning with an RBI single to center, plating Dominic Lamonica to put Oneonta in front 3-0.

After Wells  put on run on the board in the bottom of the third, Jonathan Lezette began a four-run fourth for the Red Dragons with a two-run homer to right field . David Deberardinis kept the inning going with a single to center, eventually scoring on an error by the Wells outfielder on a Dominic Lamonica hit. With Lamonica on third, Vincent Prisco capped off the inning with an RBI groundout to give the Red Dragons a 7-1 lead.

Leading 7-3 after six innings, the Red Dragons put the game out of reach with a three-run top of the seventh. Mike Graves and Chris Saitch got the inning started with back-to-back walks with two out. After both runners advanced with stolen bases, Jonathan Lezette continued off his stellar day with a two-run single to right, upping the Oneonta lead to 9-3.  Lezette would eventually score on a David Deberardinis single to make it 10-3.  In the top of the ninth, Jonathan Lezette capped off his six RBI game with a sacrifice fly, scoring Brandon LaVenture with the final run of the game.

David Deberardinis finished the game going 4-for-6 with an RBI and two runs scored. Dominic Lamonica had a pair of hits, two runs scored and an RBI while James Zupo and Sean McGlynn had two hits apiece.

Ryan Fay was credited with his second win of the season after allowing one run on one hit while striking out three in three innings of work.  Michael Dunne and Joseph Canonaco each tossed a scoreless inning of relief.

What's Next
The Red Dragons return to action on Saturday, March 23rd when they travel to Montclair State for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 11:30 AM.
