ELMIRA, N.Y. -- For the second time in program history Elmira College baseball placed a student-athlete on D3baseball.com's Team of the Week, as sophomore pitcher Taber Carter '21 was included in this week's edition for his relief efforts against Stevens Institute of Technology.

Carter spun 4.0 near-perfect innings out of the bullpen in Sunday's Empire 8 Conference series finale against the Ducks. In the longest outing of his collegiate career, the second-year righty issued a walk to the first batter he faced, before retiring the next 12 batters. He struck out a pair without allowing a hit and needed 40 pitches to complete his shutdown performance.

The Hannibal, New York, native has been superb on the mound in three appearances this spring. In 6.2 innings of work, Carter has given up just two hits and three walks while striking out five. He also owns the lowest WHIP (0.81) and batting average against (.100) of any Elmira pitcher so far this season.

Carter joins Conor Bawiec '18 as the only two Soaring Eagles to be recognized by D3baseball.com with Team-of-the-Week honors. The online publication rewarded Bawiec for the final start of his EC career on May 5, 2018, when he tossed a complete-game shutout with nine strikeouts in an 8-0 win over Medaille College.

The Soaring Eagles will continue Empire 8 action with a midweek doubleheader at St. John Fisher College on Wednesday, March 27. First pitch for the series opener is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. in Rochester, New York.
