New York University starting pitcher Ford Ladd tossed 7.1 innings to help lead the Violets to a 2-1 victory over SUNY New Paltz on Wednesday, March 27, at MCU Park in Brooklyn.

Ladd allowed just four hits and one earned run as NYU improved to 11-3 on the season and the Hawks dropped to 7-5.

The contest was scoreless entering the bottom of the sixth, when the Violets got a two-run double from Cooper Halpern to give them all the offense they would need. Halpern's double scored a pair of freshmen, Grant Berman and Zane Baker, to put NYU ahead 2-0.

New Paltz answered with a run in the top of the eighth, but the NYU bullpen made sure to keep the score 2-1. Gabriel Golob and Johnathon Gassler each recorded an out to close out the eighth inning and Joseph Prisco pitched a perfect ninth inning to earn his fifth save of the season.

Wednesday's win helped the Violets avenge a 5-4 loss to New Paltz last week in Florida.

NYU returns to the diamond on Thursday, March 28, when it hosts the College of Mount Saint Vincent. First pitch is slated for 4pm back at MCU Park.
