Carlini & McFadden Lead Keystone Past Alvernia 5-3

READING, Pa. - Junior Nick Carlini (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights) homered and finished with two RBI and senior Dakota McFadden (Rocky Point, NC/Heide Trask) pitched eight strong innings as the Keystone College baseball team enjoyed a 5-3 road non-conference win at Alvernia University on Monday afternoon at Angelica Park.

With the win, the Giants improve to 5-7 and will host Moravian College on Wednesday, April 3 at 4 p.m. in the team's home opener. The Golden Wolves are now 14-8-1.

Keystone finished with six hits on the day and took advantage of four Alvernia errors, scoring four unearned runs.

Carlini finished 1-for-4 with a solo homer to left in the fourth and an RBI groundout in the eighth. Junior Ryan Callahan (Highland Mills, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) went 2-for-4 while McFadden and freshman Devin Reed (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton Area) both provided doubles.

McFadden threw eight innings and allowed three runs while striking out nine for his second win of the spring. Sophomore Nathan Hinkley (Bradenton, Fla./Saint Lucie West Centennial) pitched the ninth to earn his first save of the season.

The Giants went ahead 2-0 in the second after an RBI double by Reed. Reed then stole third and scored a throwing error by Alvernia's catcher. Keystone stretched the lead to 3-0 following Carlini's homer.

Alvernia notched runs in the sixth and seventh to pull within one, 3-2, before Carlini's RBI groundout and senior Ronald Medina's (Bronx, NY/Dewitt Clinton) run on another error gave Keystone a 5-3 lead.
