Bison split CCC doubleheader

The Nichols College baseball team split a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) doubleheader with Roger Williams University on Saturday afternoon at DiBenedetto Stadium in Hartford, Connecticut.

Game one – Nichols 2, Roger Williams 5
Nichols (9-9, 0-3 CCC) received offense from senior Joe Assenza (1-for-4) and junior Christian Naccari (1-for-3). Assenza got the Bison on the board via an RBI triple in the eighth inning to cut the score to 5-1. Naccari followed that up with a SAC fly to drive in the Bison's second run of the game. Freshman Kyle Desjardins led Nichols with a 3-for-4 day at the plate. Sophomore Justin Hurley took the mound for Nichols and ultimately got the loss after going eight innings giving up five runs on 10 hits, while striking out three batters.

Game two – Nichols 9, Roger Williams 2
Nichols (10-9, 1-3 CCC) picked up their first CCC win of the year thanks to multi-hit efforts from Assenza (3-for-5), junior Kyle Bouchard (3-for-3), and Naccari (2-for-5). Bouchard added four RBI and reached base all five times, thanks to three hits and two walks on the day. Freshman Brendan Duffy moved to 2-0 on the season after going 7.2 innings giving up one run (no earned) on four hits, while punching out five batters.

Bouchard went a perfect 3-for-3 with two walks and four RBI.
