More news about: WPI

WORCESTER – Senior Cal Slepkow (Rehoboth, MA) struck out five in a complete-game victory while junior Dylan Horn (Sterling, CT) keyed a four-run second inning as host Clark defeated WPI, 4-1, in a NEWMAC baseball game Friday afternoon at Granger Field.

With the win, the Cougars (9-13, 1-5) snap a four-game skid and pick up their first NEWMAC win of the season and the Engineers fall to 16-8 and 2-3.

Horn (2-for-4) singled in a pair of runners for the 2-0 advantage. A pair of miscues led to another pair of runs in the bottom of the second. It remained 4-0 until sophomore Jordan DeDonato (Danvers, MA) chased home senior Steven Gallagher (Coventry, RI) with a pinch-hit single to left in the ninth.

Slepkow also finished with one run on seven hits and five walks for the Cougars. Junior Kyle Foley (Watertown, MA) struck out six in 6 2/3 relief for WPI.

Junior Tyrone Patterson (Upper Marlboro, MD) batted 2-for-3 and senior Josh Herlands (Glastonbury, CT) was 2-for-4. Gallagher doubled and Patterson stole a base.

The Engineers had the bases loaded in the second and fourth while Clark did the same in the bottom of the first.

Both teams head to the New England Baseball complex to complete the three-game NEWMAC series at noon tomorrow.
