Huskies overpower Bison

The Nichols College baseball team fell to No. 3 Southern Maine 14-2 Sunday afternoon in a non-conference game at Ed Flaherty Field in Gorham, Maine.

The first run for the Bison (13-11) came in the second inning when graduate student Chris Anderson sent an RBI single to center field. The final run on the day came on a sacrifice fly, also to center field, by senior Joe Assenza in the top of the eighth.

Sophomore Robert Cobb started the game for the Bison delivering 3.1 innings of work where he allowed five runs on nine hits and one walk, while fanning one batter. Junior Tony Martignoli pitched one inning of no-hit ball allowing one walk and striking out one batter.

The Huskies (16-3) sent 42 batters to the plate for 14 runs on 19 hits. Sophomore Joshua Joy was credited with the win after recording six innings of work where he gave up one run on four hits and two hit batters while striking out seven Bison.
 
Three things you should know…
-Today's contest marked the 14th meeting between the Bison and the Huskies. The Huskies extend their lead over the Bison to 8-6 with today's win.
-With his RBI today, Assenza now has three straight games with at least one RBI.
-Sophomore Alexander Stroshine made his first career appearance on the mound, recording two outs for the Bison.
