Seventh Inning Rally by No. 29 Warriors Dooms Sewanee Baseball in Rubber Match

CONWAY, Ark. - The Sewanee baseball team were defeated by the 29th-ranked Warriors of Hendrix College, 9-3, Sunday afternoon in the rubber match of a Southern Athletic Association series.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-After three innings of play, the Warriors led 4-0 thanks to RBI hits by Seth Tucker in the second and third.

-Sewanee broke the shutout in the fourth with a sacrifice fly by Jack Ahlum.

-In the sixth, the Tigers cut the deficit to two runs thanks to a balk by the Warriors pitcher. Riley Brandvold, who stood at third base when the balk occurred, scored on the play.

-Despite the Warriors pushing the lead to 5-2 in the bottom half of the sixth, the visitors got it back to a two-run game thanks to a throwing error by Hendrix. Carter Huffman scored on the play.

-In the bottom of the seventh, the Warriors put the game away for good with a four-run frame to seal the contest and the series.

-The Warriors are ranked 29th in the American Baseball Coaches Association poll and are receiving votes in the D3baseball.Com poll.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Carter Huffman and Garrett Liebe each recorded two hits for Sewanee. Huffman's two hits were both doubles.

-Liebe and Riley Brandvold also had a two-bagger for the Purple and Gold.

-Shane Smith (0-1) allowed a first inning run on two hits.

HENDRIX KEY STATISTICS
-Ford Sherrington had a double and a triple in the contest and drove in two runs.

-Seth Tucker had a four-hit day and brought home four RBI.

-Andrei Stoya (4-0) allowed one unearned run on two hits in five innings, striking out six.

UP NEXT
Sewanee will begin a four-game homestand Tuesday with Covenant. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. at Montgomery Field.
