Sophomores Mo Hanley, Thomas Miller Give Adrian MIAA Weekly Awards Sweep

More news about: Adrian

FREELAND, Mich.--The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association on Monday named Adrian College sophomores Thomas Miller (Saline High School) and Mo Hanley (Tampa, Fla./Chamberlain HS) the MIAA Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively. This marks the second time in 2019 that Bulldogs Baseball has swept the conference's weekly awards, and both Miller and Hanley make their debuts as such honorees.

Hanley took a no-hitter into the sixth inning against Olivet on Sunday, finishing with eight strikeouts and three walks while allowing one run and a hit in the 12-1 win. He also played an integral part in Adrian's 7-6 comeback win in extra innings over Kalamazoo on April 2, going 5.1 scoreless innings allowing three hits and five walks with five strikeouts in relief. The business administration-marketing major had entered the game with Adrian trailing 5-2 and kept the Hornets off the scoreboard to keep the Bulldogs in the contest.

On the season, Hanley is 2-0 and leads the MIAA with a 0.42 earned-run average and has 26 strikeouts over 21.1 innings.

Miller sizzled a team-best .565/.630/.870 slashline during Adrian's 5-1 week that included a four-game sweep of Olivet. In a 22-4 victory over the Comets on Sunday, Miller established Adrian single-game records--according to available information--with 13 total bases and six hits (6-for-6) and tied another with the two home runs accomplished eight other times. His six hits were two off the NCAA Division III all-time record and tied for the most in the nation this spring, and seven RBI were one shy of the Bulldogs benchmark. Miller also had the game-winning single in Adrian's 7-6 walk-off win in 10 innings over Kzoo, which had led 7-3 after six

Miller, who is in his first season with the Bulldogs after transferring from NCAA Division I Oakland, is currently batting .373 with 27 RBI, which ranks third in the conference. He also posted percentages of .443 on-base and .494 slugging. The sports management major leads the team with 31 hits.

Junior infielder Brady Wood and freshman pitcher Max Denny won MIAA weekly awards on March 11.

Adrian will travel to Grand Rapids on Thursday to play host Calvin College in a MIAA doubleheader, starting at 2 p.m. The four-game series resumes on Saturday when it shifts to Adrian and Nicolay Field for a 1 p.m. twinbill start.
