Norton, MA --- George Mulcahey (Brooklyn, NY) collected two hits and scored three times and John Mikosz (Southington, CT) struck out 10 in seven innings of work as nationally-ranked Wheaton defeated visiting WPI 11-1 in a NEWMAC baseball contest played Tuesday afternoon.  

The Lyons, ranked 20th in the most recent D3baseball.com Top 25, improve to 18-6 overall and 9-1 in conference play.  WPI is now 17-10 on the season and 3-5 in NEWMAC action. 

WPI took a lead in the second inning when Matt Howard (Worcester, MA) blasted his third homer of the season.  The hosts answered right back and took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the frame on a double steal and a Stephen Quigley (Halifax, MA) RBI single. Wheaton added on to its advantage with a four-run fourth inning, highlighted by a Nick Raposo (Johnston, RI) two-out, two-run double. 

After tacking on a run on a stolen base and an error in the sixth, the Lyons went to the long ball in the seventh with a three-run homer by Andrew Manni (Middleton, CT) and a solo shot from Mulcahey. 

Mikosz upped his record to 4-0, allowing just one run and setting a new career high with the 10 strikeouts.  Patrick Arter (Lakeville, MA) and Dominic Cunha (Lincoln, RI) tossed scoreless innings of relief for the Lyons.  Alexander Mondro (Westford, MA) shouldered the loss for WPI to drop to 2-3 on the season.  The rookie fanned two in four innings.  Nick Colucci (Lynnfield, MA) had two strong innings of relief and Griffin St. Onge (Litchfield, NH) did not allow a run over the final inning and a third. 

Ryan Tropeano (Pembroke, MA) accounted for two of WPI's five hits on the day.  Nick Wright (Foxboro, MA) and David Larson (Port Tobacco, MD) joined Howard in the hit column for the Crimson and Gray. 

WPI is off until Friday when they open a three-game NEWMAC West series with Coast Guard with a single road game at 3:30pm.  Wheaton hosts Suffolk in a non-conference game at 3:30pm on Wednesday.
